Hash specialty coffee is located in the famous lane of Melbourne CBD, Hardware Lane. Next to some famous cafés such as White Mojo and Hardware Lane. You can see the Hash (#) logo outside the café, with some graffiti exterior outside the café. There are some chairs and table outside, but it’s a bit chilly that day so we chose to sit inside the café.
The café interior was next level, as if we’re inside an art gallery. A lot of canvas paintings are hanging in the black wall. We were greeted by one of the waitress, and she took us to our table. She handed us the menu, and give us some time to choose. Hash is a fun and casual café, the workers seem to enjoy their work. There are two baristas and 3 waitress at that moment. The bar where they make the beverages is located in the middle of the café with a dessert showcase filled with cakes and muffins. We choose our coffees and the waitress come to take our orders, soy latte for me, and cold brew for my boyfriend. They are using their house blend for the espresso, ‘Lion Tamer’ from Reverence Coffee Roaster and single origin ‘Rwanda’ for the cold brew. While we were waiting we saw the barista made something very interesting, they call it ‘Matcha Flossy’ and ‘Hash Hot Chocolate’. It is a choice of matcha or hot chocolate, served separately with a fairy floss in a cup and pour the liquid into the fairy floss before indulging it.
After waiting for a few minutes, our coffee came. It’s very interesting that they served their latte in a ceramic cup. As for the cold brew, they put some ice inside a latte glass and put the coffee separately in a flask laboratory glass – which is very interesting. The latte was really rich and dense, it has a chocolate and peach flavour, with almost no acidity. It was very sweet and balanced. Cold brew is more acidic and woody, it has a subtle taste and a very smooth mouthfeel, very refreshing. The price at Hashis standard, about AUD 4.00 for standard coffee, and $ 5.00 for cold brew coffee. We enjoyed the rest of our time there, the atmosphere was cosy but busy. It’s enjoyable because the people who works there enjoyed their work as well. It’s a shame we came an hour before closing time, so we couldn’t enjoy the food. But we had very good coffees and enjoyed our time.
